The technical development phase of tools supporting the creation and management of Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) has officially been completed

On 14 and 15 October 2025, the General Assembly of the European Horizon EU project MASTERPIECE (Multidisciplinary Approaches and Software Technologies for Engagement, Recruitment and Participation in Innovative Energy Communities in Europe) took place in Bordeaux.
The project brings together research institutions, companies, and public bodies from across Europe, all committed to developing innovative solutions for Renewable Energy Communities (RECs).
Maps Group also took part in the Assembly
Maps Group was represented in France by Gian Luca Cattani, Innovation and Development Director, and Stefano Volponi, Solution Architect at Maps Energy, who illustrated how our software tools are used within the project.
During the meeting, the consortium announced the completion of the technical development phase of the digital and methodological tools designed to support the creation, management, and optimization of RECs.
This milestone marks an important achievement in the project’s journey towards promoting more participatory, sustainable, and efficient energy models.

The next steps for MASTERPIECE
In the coming months, MASTERPIECE will move into the implementation and pilot testing phase in the five participating countries — Italy, France, Sweden, Türkiye, and Spain — where the developed solutions will be tested in real contexts to assess their effectiveness, impact, and replicability.
The remaining period, up to June 2026, will be dedicated to validating the results and analysing the technical, economic, and social impacts of the proposed technologies, to encourage the broader adoption of Renewable Energy Communities across Europe.
The MASTERPIECE project represents a tangible step forward in Europe’s energy transition, fostering cooperation between citizens, public authorities, and businesses to build a more shared and sustainable energy future.
The technological role of Maps Energy in the project
Maps Energy contributes to MASTERPIECE with its expertise in developing digital tools for decision support and energy data management, actively participating in the design of software architectures and analytical models serving Renewable Energy Communities.
Our commitment is focused on delivering practical solutions that enable the creation and efficient management of RECs, empowering citizens and local stakeholders to take part in the energy transition.
