Progetto RiBiFlex

V2G charging systems and centralised control of household loads to turn private infrastructure into energy flexibility resources

V2G charging systems and centralised control of household loads to turn private infrastructure into energy flexibility resources

The RiBiFlex project — Bidirectional Charging as a Flexibility Resource — aims to demonstrate, in a real-world operating environment, how the coordinated integration of Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technologies, residential stationary batteries and advanced Energy Management Systems (EMS) can provide a reliable, scalable and economically viable flexibility resource.

The initiative is built around three technological pillars: the development of an interoperable bidirectional wallbox compliant with ISO 15118-20 and OCPP 2.1 standards; a local flexibility system for load control and communication with smart meters; and an advanced cloud platform for aggregation and participation in energy markets.

Maps S.p.A. technologies for the RiBiFlex project

Within the project partnership, Maps S.p.A. contributes its expertise in software development and artificial intelligence for the Energy sector. The company plays a key role in developing the cloud aggregation infrastructure, forecasting models, semantic interoperability framework and scalable business models.

The specific role of Maps S.p.A.

BSP/RO Cloud Platform: Design and implementation of a platform for aggregating flexibility, structured into Remote Operator (RO) modules for the technical management of devices and Balance Service Provider (BSP) modules for generating market offers on GME’s MLT-Flex market.

Forecasting and Optimisation Models: Development of algorithms to estimate electric vehicle availability and photovoltaic generation, combined with a multi-objective optimisation engine designed to maximise aggregated flexibility, reduce operating costs and ensure user comfort.

Semantic Interoperability and Federated PKI: Definition of a shared, open-source semantic data model to enable communication between the various subsystems, and development of a federated Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for the secure management of digital identities.

Operational Testing — MiNDFlex: Field deployment of the integrated platform within the MiNDFlex pilot project, coordinated by Unareti. Activities include the operational management of nominations, the receipt of activation orders from the DSO and the handling of financial settlement processes.

Business Models for Flexibility: Development of scalable operating models for aggregation, covering consumers, prosumers and energy communities. The work includes assessing economic sustainability, revenue-sharing mechanisms and strategies for leveraging intellectual property (IP).

The other RiBiFlex partners

Dazetechnology srl — Daze: As project lead, Daze is responsible for the hardware and software development of the bidirectional charging station, supporting V1G, V2H and V2G in both AC and DC, as well as the advanced user interface via mobile app.

MAC srl: MAC designs and develops the “Chain2gate4Flexibility” smart system, comprising CI-BT, CIR and EMS modules, for local energy monitoring, load management and communication via the Chain2 protocol with Open Meter devices.

Politecnico di Milano — POLIMI: As research organisation, Politecnico di Milano is responsible for mathematical modelling, the development of machine learning algorithms for uncertainty forecasting, and experimental validation at the Città Studi pilot site.
